Dutch-born Ghanaian striker Cody Gakpo grabs debut goal in UEFA Champions League

Dutch youth international of Ghanaian descent Cody Gakpo claimed his maiden goal in the UEFA Champions League after netting for Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven in their 3-0 battering of Danish side Midtjylland on Tuesday night at the Phillips Stadion.

The Eredivisie giants scored three goals in 13 minutes to power themselves to a first-leg win with a highly dominant performance before 23,500 home fans.

19-year-old English-born Madueke Chukwunonso struck the opening goal for the hosts with a sensation effort in the 19th minute before German international Mario Götze doubled the lead 10 minutes later from a thunderous shot that deflected off a defender inside the box.

3 minutes later it was the turn of Gakpo to put his name on the score-sheet. The 22-year-old positioned himself inside the box to connect home a low cross from Eran Zahavi.

It is the first time the Ghanaian has scored in the UEFA Champions League.
