EXCLUSIVE: Ghana government supports Kotoko’s CAF Champions League campaign with GHS1 million [Asempa FM SportsNite]
Ghana’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has provided $100,000 funding support for Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko as the Porcupine Warriors represent the West African giants in the 2022/23 CAF Champions League.
The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Usif, told Enoch Worlanyo on Asempa FM’s SportsNite show on Thursday evening that 2021/22 Ghana Premier League title-winners have received the financial support from the government.
“Kotoko, who are representing us in the CAF Champions League have received GHS1 million from the ministry to support their campaign,” the Hon. Minister told Worlanyo.
He also revealed that Hearts of Oak received the same support last season when they played in CAF interclub competition.
“Last season, when Hearts of Oak were participating in Africa, we supported them with GHS1 million,” he added.
The Porcupine Warriors contingent have left the shores of the country as they have headed to cross-border country Benin where they will take on the 2021-22 Burkina Faso Premier League champions.
Kotoko crossed the Ghanaian border from Aflao with an impressive police escort from the Ghana Police Service and will head straight to Benin.
