“Ghana might not be able to qualify to major tournaments again” – Top Ex-Verona midfielder predicts doom for Ghana football [Asanteman FM]
Former Ghana international Emmanuel Agyeman Badu has bemoaned the state of football in the West African country.
Badu, 32, has been capped 78 times for the Black Stars and played at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil is unhappy with the state of Ghana football.
Ghana’s U23 side, popularly known as the Black Meteors, was knocked out of the U23 AFCON tournament in Morocco, sparking concerns among key stakeholders in the country.
Speaking to Kumasi-based Asanteman FM, the former Udinese captain insisted that football in Ghana has entered into dangerous times.
“Ghana football is in dangerous times. If care isn’t taken, in a couple of years,
qualification to major competitions may become problematic,” he told Kumasi-based Asanteman FM.
Badu becomes the latest former international to deeply criticize the Ghana FA after former midfielder Derek Boateng descended heavily on the GFA and how they are running the game in Ghana.
Under the Kurt Okraku-led Ghana FA administration, Ghana has failed at major tournaments – Ghana exited the 2021 AFCON at the group with an abysmal performance, and the 2022 FIFA World Cup was no different as the team was eliminated at the group stage. The Black Starlets, Ghana’s U17 side, failed to qualify for the 2023 U17 AFCON tournament while the U20 side also failed to book a ticket to the U20 AFCON tournament. Meanwhile, the Black Meteors were booted out of the U23 AFCON tournament in Morocco on Friday.
In June 2022, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) banned Ghana from competing in the next two editions of the U-17 Women’s World Cup African qualifiers due to age fraud.
