Ghana Premier League: Aduana Stars 3-0 WAFA – Fire Boys deflate academy boys in Dormaa

Aduana Stars recorded their third straight win of the Ghana Premier League season as the Fire Boys hammered WAFA 3-0 at the Nana Agyeman Badu II Park in Dormaa Ahenkro on Saturday afternoon.

Hafiz Adams opened the scoring from an Emmanuel Gyamfi assist on the 10th-minute mark before the former Asante Kotoko winger netted twice in either half to cement the victory for the home side.

Though Aduana Stars defeated the Sogakope-based side during the last meeting at the venue in the previous campaign, Saturday’s performance was outrightly dominant and saw the hosts totally outclass their visitors.

In the build-up to the first goal, Gyamfi twisted and turned his markers inside the area with a brilliant application for skill and vision to beat three WAFA players before locating Hafiz Adams who beat his marker with an intelligent lob before firing at Kwadwo Bonsu’s goal.

WAFA tried to come into the game but their efforts were just not enough to secure victory for the side. But, just moments after their miss on the 32nd-minute mark, Gyamfi displayed true resilience as he outmuscled his way to beat his WAFA marker to fire beyond the visitors’ keeper for the second goal of the game.

Meanwhile, Sampson Agyapong should have pulled WAFA back into the game on the brink of half-time when he was played through by Justus Torsutsey but he fired his effort straight at the experienced Joseph Aidoo who collected the ball with a routine save.

Two minutes into the second stanza, former Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko transfer-target Konadu Yiadom was presented with a golden chance to halve the deficit for his side but his feeble effort was stopped by Aidoo.

Aduana should have gone 3-0 up by the 63rd minute when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Bright Adjei inside the box. But, the offensive midfielder’s shot was palmed out by Kwadwo Bonsu in the post.

But, that was not it as the former champions kept probing and seeking the third goal. Eight minutes later, Kwame Adom Frimpong was allowed to scroll through the defence freely as he located Emmanuel Gyamfi who gleefully finished off for the insurance goal.

The results put Aduana Stars second on the chart with 11 points.
