Ghana’s Bawa Fuseini named CEO of Confederation of African Athletics

Ghana Athletics Association President, Bawa Fuseini, has been retained as the CEO of the Confederation of African Athletics Region II.

Fuseini, who has been administering the sport in the West African nation for over 20 years, was confirmed as the CEO of the body immediately after their elective congress on Saturday at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra.

Nigerian administrator Okowa Tonobok defeated his rival Vierin DeGon (9-6) in a race that had to go to second-round after each candidate got 7 votes apiece from the 15 ballots in the first round.

Immediately after being sworn into office as the new President of the association, Okowa invited Bawa to the high stage and confirmed him as the CEO of the body.

At Ghana Athletics, he has superintended over high quality level technical officials training and managed several West African sanctioned events and led top level performances from Ghanaian athletes.

Bawa was retained as region II CEO as a result of his high standard delivery that led to the revival of athletics within the zone and producing top class performers.

The task would now be to improve the stocks of athletes and athletics within the Region II.

Currently, the body is receives just a little over $27,000 as annual support from the World Athletics.
