Hearts of Oak 1-1 Karela United: Phobians watch faint title hopes evaporate after failing to beat Karela

Hearts of Oak have watched their faint title hopes evaporate after drawing 1-1 with Karela United at Accra Sports Stadium on Monday afternoon.

Benjamin York struck home a sensational goal for the Phobians with a brilliant strike on the brink of half-time. There was a string of good switches in the build-up to the goal.

But, Emmanuel Owusu Boakye scored with 6 minutes of regulation time remaining to dash the hopes of the Phobians.

Defender Caleb Amankwah traversed the centerline to play a quick one-two with Ibrahim. The talented midfielder found Muntari who tossed a great ball into the path of York. The former Samartex 1996 attacker applied great control but spilled the second ball however his tenacity pushed him to retrieve the round object from his marker. He then unleashed an unanticipated bullet into the net.

With leaders Asante Kotoko hammering Medeama SC 2-0 at the Akoon Park on Sunday, anything apart from a victory for the Rainbow Club would have rendered any other contest dead.

Samuel Boadu paraded a strong lineup that featured Sulley Ali Muntari, Samuel Inkoom, Gladson Awako, and Salifu Ibrahim.

Karela pressed, pressurized, and pile more men in the Hearts third in a bid to grab the equaliser but the hosts calmly controlled the tempo as the game ended in their favour.

The outcome sees the title-holders now sit in fourth place with 48 points and 4 games in hand same as Kotoko who has 59 points. The Porcupine Warriors now need just a point to seal the title.
