Jurgen Klopp hands Liverpool senior debut to massively talented Ghanaian defender Jarell Quansah in win over AC Milan

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp gave English-born Ghanaian Jarell Quansah his first team debut as the defender came off the bench to feature in their 4-1 win over AC Milan on Friday.

The 19-year-old was introduced inside the 83rd minute as a replacement for Joe Gomez and he helped to shore up the backline as the Reds secured the crucial win.

In the 2021-22 season, Jarell was twice an unused substitute for the senior Reds team, against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League and Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.

He has been playing at the Liverpool Academy since age 5 and showed his intent of playing for Ghana at some point.

Though he is eligible for Scotland, England and Ghana but has already featured for England from U15 to U19.

He played a major role as England won the UEFA U19 European Championship in July 2022. He was named in the team of the tournament which was staged in Slovakia.

He has scored a goal in 9 games for Liverpool’s U21 side in the 2022/23 Premier League 2 campaign.

The stylish center-half captained Liverpool’s U18 side to the FA Youth Cup final in 2021.

He is a left-footed center-back who is sometimes deployed as a right-back.

His grandfather Samuel Quansah is a former Ghana international who moved to England in the 1950s, and after trials with Man United settled in the lower leagues, including with Staybridge Celtic.
