Match Report: Kotoko 1-1 Hearts of Oak – Caleb Amankwah’s last-gasp finish rescues Phobians from the Porcupines’ spikes

Hearts of Oak had to rely on a last-gasp goal from defender Caleb Amankwah to manage a 1-1 draw against Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Matchday 3 of the Ghana Premier League.

Defender Mubarik Yussif drew first blood for Kotoko 12 minutes into the second when he slammed home a spilled ball from a second ball after the Hearts of Oak defence were caught ball-watching during a set piece.

Kotoko had what appeared to be a legitimate penalty call ignored by referee Selorm Yao Bless midway through the second-half and created decent chances to increase their tally but Stephen Mukwala unbelievably missed.

Just when Kotoko thought they had nicked the maximum points, Caleb Amankwah grabbed a share of the spoils for the Phobians.

Samuel Boadu opted to start Junior Kaaba, Kwadwo Obeng Junior, and Isaac Mensah in attack while his Kotoko counterpart Seydou Zerbo lined up Stephen Amankona, Stephen Mukwala, and Isaac Oppong in his attack.

The outcome leaves Samuel Boadu still without a league win in 8 games in charge of the Phobians and have just 2 points from his opening 3 games of the season.
