Paul Amoah challenging Mohammed Kudus for 2022 SWAG Personality of the Year

Ghanaian sprinter Joseph Paul Amoah has been nominated for the 2022 SWAG Awards Personality of the Year.

Amoah, 25 and a gold medalist from the 2019 African Games, will have to beat off competition from Black Stars steamroller Mohammed Kudus as well as amateur boxer Abraham Mensah.

Within the calendar year, Joseph Paul ran under 10 seconds for the first time on April 23rd 2022 with a time of 9.94 seconds, making him the 4th Ghanaian to run the event under 10 seconds.

The time also marked the first time in Ghana’s history where two of their athletes made the top 2 in the world for the 100m.

Meanwhile, Kudus was by far Ghana’s best performer at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar – winning the MVP award in the Black Stars’ 3-2 victory over South Korea. He also became the first Ghanaian player to score a brace in a single World Cup game.

The former Right to Dream Academy graduate played 50 games for both club and country, scoring 17 goals in the process.

19-year-old bantamweight amateur boxer Abraham Mensah represented Ghana at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. On 4 August 2022, Mensah defeated Rukmal Prasanna of Sri Lanka to progress to the semifinals and automatically guarantees Ghana its third bronze medal.
