Super Clash: How the Hearts of Oak players rated against Kotoko

Hearts of Oak shared the spoils in a 0-0 draw with bitterest rivals Asante Kotoko in the Super Clash of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Kwadwo Obeng Junior was unlucky as he crashed his effort into the woodwork after he was set up by Daniel Afriyie Barnieh.

Ghana Sports Online editor AKYEREKO runs the rule over the performance of the Phobian players.

Richard Attah – 7/10

Basically stood between Hearts of Oak and conceding in either half. He did not only pull great stops in the game but his deliveries were top-notch. He delivered two quick balls to Barnieh and Obeng which could have both ended in goals.

Fatawu Mohammed – 5.5/10

Though he attended to his core defensive duties very well as he limited the number of Kotoko attacks from his side of the wing but he provided little in terms of attacks. It is also worth mentioning that he found it a bit difficult in dealing with Patrick Asmah when he was introduced as a replacement for the injured Imoro Ibrahim.

Dennis Korsah – 8/10 STAR-MAN

Apt! A superb display from the former Dwarfs captain who was playing for the first time in the Super Clash. He patrolled his lines with diligence. His crossfield passes were key as well as his link-up plays. He offers hope for Ghana and Hearts of Oak.

Mohammed Alhassan – 7/10

Another fine display from the central defender. His partnership with Robert Addo Sowah literally silenced the Cameroonian front-line of Mbella and Mfegue. He even traversed his area to pile pressure on Kotoko in their own half.

Robert Addo Sowah – 6/10

Though not your typical poster-boy for the clash, he paid attention to details and defended very well by doing the simple things as he gleaned from the experience of his partner.

Abdul-Aziz Nurudeen – 6.5/10

He enjoyed an outstanding first half as he truly limited Kotoko’s penetration through the middle. In Nurudeen, there was real value in reliability, physicality, and consistency in terms of his performance. He had to break up the Kotoko play and initiate attacks.

Sulley Muntari – 5.5/10

The ex-Sunderland and Inter Milan midfielder was lively in the opening half and even came close to scoring from an overhead kick but he fluffed his lines and his influence totally diminished as the game wore on. He was replaced by Frederick Ansah Botchway 7 minutes into the second-half.

Gladson Awako – 6/10

He lasted 88 minutes when and should have done better with the minutes he enjoyed. He made a bad decision with his first effort of the game which he should have beaten Danlad in the Kotoko goal. He could have done more on a platform like that.

Salim Adams – 5.5/10

Had a quiet afternoon in the Super Clash. Had the opportunity to fire one of his trademark efforts at goal but he went for the option of placement and Danland Ibrahim applied a routine collection of the ball.

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh – 6/10

The former Ghana U20 attacker was a workaholic force throughout the game. He should have scored early in the first-half when Sulley Muntari set him up inside the box.

Kwadwo Obeng Junior – 6/10

A livewire in the Hearts of Oak attack. His hold-up play was impressive and he was unlucky to have watched his effort crash into the near-post after he was played through by Afriyie Barnieh. Late into the second-half, he displayed good resilience to play the ball through for Barnieh who was outmuscled by the Kotoko defence.

SUBSTITUTES

James Sewornu – 5/10

Frederick Ansah Botchway – 5/10

Isaac Mensah – 5/10

Enoch Asubonteng – 5/10
