“Take it from me – back tyre can never overtake front tyre” – JE Sarpong sinks his fangs into sabotaging assistant coaches [GTV Sports+]

Legendary Ghanaian trainer JE Sarpong has sunk his fangs into assistant coaches who backbite their head coaches at clubs in the country.

The 76-year-old, who was once Ghana U23 assistant coach to the late Cecil Jones Attuquayefio, has recently resigned from his role as head coach of Division One League side Krystal Palace.

Sarpong, who is mostly hailed for his contribution to the discovery of ex-Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan, has worked at many clubs in the Ghana Premier League including Hearts of Oak, Great Olympics, Asante Kotoko, and Liberty Professionals.

Reacting to recent developments in Ghanaian football on GTV Sports+’ The File show hosted by Kwame Dwomoh-Agyemang, he lashed out at most assistant coaches.

“Take it from me. The back tyre can never overtake the front tyre. You would remain where you are and can never go forward. Most assistant coaches have made it a trademark to backbite their head coaches with the aim of their taking their jobs,” he said.

It is unclear whether his outburst stems from his recent spell at the Akosombo-based side following his resignation.

But, he had some nice words for ex-Asante Kotoko who worked as his assistant coach at some point in time.

“Duncan will never do that to you. When I left a club and they wanted to appoint him, he consulted me about whether he should take the job or not and I gave him my blessing. He is my son. I taught him,” he added.
