Tokyo 2020: Ghana’s men’s 4X100 relay team beats USA to advance to final

Ghana’s men’s 4X100 relay team have advanced to the finals of the Tokyo 2020 event after clocking a time of 38.08 seconds in heat 2 ran at Thursday dawn.

The quartet made of Sean Safo-Antwi, Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Paul Amoah and Martin Owusu-Antwi were expected to beat the cut point time of 38.18 but they performed 10 milliseconds better in the highly anticipated race.

Ghana, who were in lane 1 in heat 2, were up against the established Americans, European powerhouses Germany and Italy in the heat but managed to book qualification to the final.

Ghana however could not secure an automatic qualification but booked their place as one of the teams of the fastest finishing time and advance to the finals becoming the only African side to remain in the race.

China, winners of heat 2 have also qualified along with Jamaica, Canada, Italy, Germany and Great Britain.
