[VIDEO] Indonesia player Saud Syauqi receives global attention for outstanding display of sportsmanship during 2022 AFC Futsal Asian Cup

Indonesia player Saud Syauqi has received global attention for his exemplary display of sportsmanship during a 2022 AFC Futsal Asian Cup quarter-final game on Tuesday in Kuwait.

The 25-year-old had a glorious chance to score a decisive goal for Pasukan Garuda which could have seen the Indonesians seal passage through to the semi-finals at the expense of Japan. However, he chose the option of showing an example of sportsmanship to everyone in the world.

Japan’s Kentaro Ishida fell on the floor after suffering a muscle pull while attempting to cover a defensive zone during an Indonesian counter-attack.

Syauqi, who had come 1v1 with Japanese guardian Higor Pires, had his teammate in an unmarked zone to his right and the option to shoot and score for his nation.

Instead, he opted to pass the ball out to touch to allow the medics to attend to Kentaro who was down in pain.

The gesture from the player has received global attention and is likely to receive an award for his outstanding display of show sportsmanship.

Japan went ahead to win the fixture 3-2.
