Andre Ayew scores, provides assist as Al Sadd win over Al Wehdat in AFC Champions League

Ghana captain Andre Ayew got on the score-sheet and provided his 3rd assist of the season Qatari side Al Sadd staged a strong comeback to Jordanian opposition Al Wehdat 5-2 in AFC Champions League on Friday.

Ayew, 32, struck Al Dheeb in front on 62 minutes after assisting former Arsenal midfield talisman Santi Cazorla to pull parity for the home side now managed by Javi Garcia.

Friday’s goal becomes the former Olympique Marseille man’s 18th goal of the season for the giants who are gunning for their third continental title after winning the competition in the 1988/89 season and 2011.

It was Al Sadd who opened the scoring but, the 17-time Jordanian champions shocked the hosts when Samir Ahmed and Ghanaian forward Mohammed Anas scored for the visitors.

Anas’ goal ensured Al Sadd ended the half on the wrong foot.

But, a commanding second-half performance sealed the victory and handed a recovery boost as they recovered from the matchday 2 loss to Al-Faisaly in an away fixture.

Akram Afif was named the MVP of the game.

Meanwhile, Al Sadd are second with 4 points – W1 D1 L1 from their opening 3 games of the competition.

Korean side Pohang Steelers lost 2021 final to Saudi Arabia side Al-Hilal.
