BREAKING: Ghana FA SACK C.K Akonnor as head coach of Black Stars

The Ghana FA has sacked Charles C.K Akonnor from his job as head coach of the Black Stars, according to a statement released by the football governing body of the country.

Akonnor, ex-Ghana captain, gets his contract terminated following Ghana’s poor showing in the qualifying campaign for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The former Wolfsburg winger was appointed head coach of the senior national team in January 2020 as he replaced James Kwasi Appiah whose contract wasn’t renewed by the association.

A statement on the website of the GFA reads: The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association has taken a decision to terminate the appointment of Black Stars Coach Charles Akonnor and his two Assistants with immediate effect. This follows the receipt of the Technical Report from the Head Coach of the Senior National Team and the report from the Black Stars Management Committee following Ghana’s Group G World Cup qualifying matches against Ethiopia and South Africa.”
