BREAKING: Tema Youth to pull out of Division One League – Click to find out why

Ghanaian side Tema Youth Football Club have planned to pull out of the Division One League next season, Ghana Sports Online has learnt.

Tema Youth have produced many top players in Ghana including Arsenal’s Thomas Partey and Joseph Paintsil of Genk.

Tema Youth, owned by former Ghana FA Executive Council member and Black Stars Management Committee chairman, Winfried Osei Kwaku have decided to withdraw from the Division One League Zone III if they don’t secure promotion to the Ghanaian top-flight league this season.

According to Ghana Sports Online sources close to the top brass of the Tema-based club the team could be remodeled into an academy system to produce players to feed the domestic and international market.

However there are two reasons why Tema Youth have decided not to compete in next season’s Division One League.

The other reason is that the club have been left embittered by the decision of the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana FA to awarded points to all clubs in the Division One League Zone III instead of deducting points in the case of Phar Rangers who have been expelled from the league.

The club feel the Ghanaian football governing body is in favour of Accra Lions FC securing promotion to the Ghana Premier League next season thus have decided to award points instead of deducting like in the case of Amidaus Professionals who were expelled from the league.

Tema Youth are three points behind Accra Lions (56) who beat Phar Rangers home and away in the ongoing season. If the Ghana FA decide to apply the laws as done in the case involving Amidaus Professionals Accra Lions will lose 6 points from their points accumulation while Tema Youth will be deducted a point which could leave the Tema-based club on top of the league with a 2-point lead.

The Ghana FA has still not applied the laws as the official league table displayed on their website as of matchday 28 in Zone III still shows Accra Lions FC benefiting from the 6 points gained from Phar Rangers.

This is one of the main reasons why Tema Youth have decided not to compete in the league next season as they feel the current Ghana FA administration is championing the cause of clubs they claim are ‘regime’ clubs.
